With Singapore Comic Con 2024 (SGCC) wrapped up, let’s talk about all that has happened at the event! In this article, we’ll go through everything that made the event enjoyable to be a part of! Singapore Boardgame Design (SBD) boothed throughout the two days and here are some reports that we got from the floor!
Tabletop game has always been a feature in Singapore Comic Con. We have local designers from Playlogue, Capital Gains Studio and Mind Cafe hosting game sessions of local games, while Gamersaurus Rex hosted tabletop miniatures war gaming with a host of activities such as miniature painting. The highlight of tabletop gaming is the huge area reserved for trading card game tournaments, with one of the biggest competition featuring One Piece TCG.
As you walk through the event floor, you’ll notice that there is always a special event at every corner. From meeting your favourite anime characters, performances, and tournaments. At Basement 2, where we were located, there were performances on the Main Stage every so often with many performing acts like Star Wars and Ultraman performances, a live orchestra, and so much more. SGCC has curated the event to such a degree that it has made it an enjoyable one for all ages and it’s very apparent in the careful planning to cater to a wide range of audiences.
One of the most important concerns we had was “What were we gonna eat there?”, considering that Marina Bay Sands did not have that many affordable options, we were glad with the varying food and beverages from brands such as Old Chang Kee, BreadTalk, Playmade and much more. Different foods were also given a special twist with some of them being named after your favourite characters, or exclusive drinks only available at SGCC!
The main complaint about this year's event is the increase in the admission fee. However, the fair remains well-organized, offering a variety of activities that cater to both hardcore culture enthusiasts and casual, family-friendly audiences. The range of brands has also expanded, featuring pop culture offerings from both the Western and Eastern worlds.
